Pushing Comfort Zones
Recently I’ve been making it a regular occurance to try to make myself do things that make me a bit uncomfortable. Specifically, I’ve been doing this with climbing and work and my theory is that a comfort zone represents things that land within the expectations you have for yourself. I think that for someone who is trying to grow in a skill, this comfort zone should include the set of things that they have done in the past - as they know they have the necessary skill to do it again - but it should also include things that are slightly beyond what you’ve already done such that you can continue to expose yourself to the nuances of whatever you are trying to improve at.
I’ve noticed that my comfort zone has been retracting and with it, my growth has been slowing. This made sense to me when I realized that by failing to explore more of the unknown, my learning had also slowed down. Further, I believe that by allowing my comfort zone to shrink, I was also finding it more difficult to push it in other areas of my life.
As such, I’ve recently embarked on pushing my comfort zone regularly in my climbing and in my programming. I want to start shaping my habits by doing things that are beyond the level of things I’ve done before and with that, I hope that I can continue to grow
